The Art of Simplifying Your Life

Live Simply.

It’s a saying on an old hand towel that my Grandma had, that now sits in my kitchen as a reminder to never make something more complicated than it has to be. Living Simply is a beautiful thing. It will ease your stress of trying to impress, and it will open up a happier lifestyle for you overall as an actor.

Being an actor is hard work, both mentally and physically. That’s a fact! But what if I were to tell you that things don’t have to be so complicated? You can simplify what you do in your craft and your lifestyle to be a happier actor!

STOP OVER-ACTING!

Have you heard that saying before? “Stop over-acting”, “You’re trying too hard”, “Just say the lines”… They all have a common thread of trying too hard. Something that many actors (including myself) have been a victim of at one point or another. You want to do your best work and that can often lead to you trying to overplease everybody, which can ultimately lead to you overdoing it in your acting craft.

This is where the “Live Simply” comes into play! When you simply live in the moment and forget about the rest, you will open up your own world of happiness as an actor! You never have to illustrate and embellish the words in the script. All you have to do, is simply say them. Let the words speak through you and for your character. Think about that today and see where you might be able to simplify things. Not only acting, but in life as well.
